CHAPTER SIXTEEN
A week passed since the infamous incident that threatened to level the entire frat house and everyone seemed to have forgotten about it. Words still floated about the measure of power Nat held within her, as many veered on her side as regards just to what sort of witch she was, but Alex felt her stance in school slowly slide down the ladder of ridicule as few believed she wasnât capable of toppling Nat.
Yet, the atmosphere had never seemed or looked more peaceful, with everyone hyped about the afternoon as they trooped into the volleyball court one at a time with jerseys supporting their classes and favorite teams that were about to play. Teachers lined the large sized hall and remained as vigilant as ever, in bid to prevent the sort of attack that almost left them to deal with a studentâs death.
Mr. Sadon had ordered the highest form of security they could have, and even brought in magical elves specialized in binding spells for protection to help ward off intruders from the school. Yet, in the shadows lurked the feeling that something was waiting for the perfect moment to pounce. It was without doubt a feeling many students kept close to their hearts as they wandered around the school grounds.
The large school clock struck aloud and indicated noon had dawned upon them. Numerous feet slapped onto the ground as they hurried along the school corridors and towards the sports venue.
âWhat if they win?â Leslie looked at the boy licking an ice cream cone to her left.
Hurriedly looking at her, he replied, âWhat if who wins?â
Sheila grunted and shook her head seriously in disbelief. They had been on the subject matter about who could win the first game between teams consisting of sophomores, and those filled with juniors, while Arnold obviously decided to pay better attention to his ice cream than their conversation.
âAre they always like this?â Leslie asked Sheila in a whisper.
Sheila shrugged and took another look at the annoying fourth member of their group. He seemed to care less about everything and harbored little to no interest in what others had to say or what they were interested in voicing about either.
âThe only thing I know for sure is they lack empathy and they have a way of ruining games for you before they even begin!â Sheila fumed.
Leslie seemed lost on what the witch was talking about and looked at Arnold for some explanation or at least a tip. Arnold smirked his lips and licked his fingertips before looking at Leslie and casting a smile across his face as though he had no idea what she was speaking about.
âDonât be a douche Arnold,â she pleaded in the best way she could. âWhat game did you ruin?â
He pointed in the direction of the court and whispered, âThe one in which Alex and Nat are about to play as teammates.â
Leslie gasped and felt her ears ring with disbelief. News on the sophomore teams had been kept a secret for reasons best known to coaches John and Zack.
